Her passion for fundraising sparked her and her sister Nicola to begin the Walk of Life in 2005\, and it has developed and grown ever since into the beautiful celebration that it is today with thousands of walkers stepping out for an incredible cause. The Walk of Life remembers Ness with our volunteer run ‘GoodNess’ stops along the way. \nWhether you’re walking in memory of a friend or family member\, to celebrate yours or your loved one’s recovery at the RUH\, or to say thank you to the incredible RUH staff\, this is a walk for all lives. \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOther information \n\nCanal Walk Routes \n  \nExpandHide\n \n\n\nThere are two walking distances to choose from\, both along the Kennet & Avon Canal. Please note that all mileage is approximate. \nThe 26.2 mile (marathon) walks starts early in the morning at The Crown Inn in Bishops Cannings\, which is just outside of Devizes. There’s a short walk through the village before you reach the canal\, where you’ll join the towpath and pass through the legendary Caen Hill Locks\, the historic town of Bradford on Avon and over Dundas aqueduct\, before heading to the finish line in Bath.\nThe 10 mile walk starts in the afternoon in Bradford on Avon \, location TBC. You’ll head along the canal towpath all the way to the finish line. \nBoth walks victoriously cross the finish line at The Holburne Museum in Bath. \nPlease note\, when you register for the event\, you will be asked to choose your distance. \nKey facilities:\n• Toilets available on route\n• Refreshments available at key locations – please bring your own water bottle\n• Dogs welcome on leads\n• A map will be provided to help navigate the route and show facility locations. There will also be friendly event marshals on hand at key locations to help direct. \n\n\n\n\nTravel Information \n  \nExpandHide\n \n\n\n26.2 mile / Marathon Walkers\nPlease note\, there is no dedicated event parking at The Crown Inn in Bishops Cannings. We recommend that you arrange for someone to drop you off or you use the event coach service (details provided when you register). \n10 mile / Afternoon Walkers\nBradford on Avon has a number of public car parks which are within easy walking distance to the afternoon start – further information can be found here: https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/article/2324/Bradford-on-Avon \nPlease note\, the Green Man Festival is taking place in Bradford on Avon and the town centre will be very busy. Two car parks will also be closed for the event (the Library car park and St Margaret’s car park). It is important you plan your journey to ensure you arrive for your allocated start wave. There is no dedicated parking at the event in Bradford on Avon. \nAlternatively\, Bradford on Avon has direct train and bus links operating to and from Bath and the surrounding area. You’ll be jumping over the beautiful Wiltshire countryside\, where\, if you’re lucky\, you’ll catch a glimpse of the White Horses on the way down. \n\n\n\n\n   \n\n\n\n\n\nOn the day\, you’ll receive thorough ground-training from a tandem master to prepare you for your fall to earth. Board your plane and when it’s time to jump\, you’ll be strapped securely to your tandem instructor before you exit the aircraft at 13\,000ft. Experience an exhilarating freefall of over 40 seconds before your instructor deploys the main parachute and together you steer your way back to the drop zone for a gentle\, controlled landing. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow to book\nThere are two fundraising options available. DESCRIPTION:Light up the lake for the RUH\nJoin our brand new Night Glow event\, for a cold water dip in the dark. This is a truly unique and exhilarating experience\, set under the rising full moon at West Country Water Park . \n\nA unique open water experience with lifeguard support\nMeet a community of like-minded people\nDo something unforgettable for your local hospital\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn the night you’ll be supported by the water park team\, who will be on hand to guide you through the effects of cold water and to keep you safe in the lake. We’ll be there to cheer you on as you bravely climb down the steps into the chilly lake with your fellow dippers\, lighting the way with your illuminated float. \nOnce you’re back on dry land\, join us in the indoor café to warm up with a celebratory hot drink\, where hot food will also be available to purchase. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is a non-competitive event and there is no time or swimming distance associated with the Night Glow. You can get in and out\, stay in for a few minutes\, or swim a short distance. The Night Glow is a beginner friendly\, accessible event for everyone. \nStart the Easter weekend with a splash and make an extraordinary memory in the name of extra extraordinary care. \nRegister now\nEntry costs £15 (16+ only). You can get in and out\, stay in for a few minutes\, or swim a short distance (only recommended for those with cold water experience).\nThe lifeguards may ask you to get out of the water after a certain amount of time\, depending on the water temperatures\, to keep you safe. \nWhat equipment do I need?\nTow floats and lights are mandatory for this event. Lit up tow floats will be available to borrow on the night. \nAs part of the safety rules of West Country Water Park\, you will also need to wear a brightly colour swimming cap to be visible while you enter the water. Your registration includes a branded RUHX swimming cap which will be provided on the night. \nYou can choose whether to wear a wetsuit or not depending on how brave you’re feeling\, and your level of cold water experience. If you choose not to wear a wetsuit\, you must wear a swimsuit (no nudity please!). Wetsuits are available to hire from West Country Water Park for £5 – please select the wetsuit hire option when you register. \nCan I wear fancy dress?\nFancy dress accessories (such as hats and face paints) are allowed but anything that can become waterlogged (such as items made from heavy fabrics like jumpers) could become too heavy in the water and become dangerous. The water park staff reserve the right to ask you to remove any unsuitable fancy dress before you enter the water. \nWhat support is there on the day?\nThe water park lifeguards will provide a safety briefing before you enter the water\, and will be on hand to help throughout the night\, ensuring you are safe and supported at all times. \nThe RUHX team will also be there to cheer you on – we’ll even hold your towel! \nCan my friends and family come along to watch?\nFriends and family are welcome to watch. Over the 31 days in March\, walk 400\,000 steps your own way and raise funds for our new campaign. That’s roughly 13\,000 steps a day! \nAim for a daily step target\, plan big adventures to knock off chunks of steps\, and record your steps at work – there really are lots of ways to get involved.  \nOnce registered\, you will be asked to set up a Facebook Fundraising page. Once you have set a page up you will receive your FREE t-shirt. All who register will get a steps tracker\, to help you stay on track with the steps you take. \nHow do I sign up?\nJoin our Facebook group where the event is held. Once accepted\, there is a form you will need to fill in to give the charity your details\, and set up your Facebook fundraising page. We ask that you fundraise whatever you can to help the RUH Bath introduce Robotic surgery. \nHow many steps do I need to do?\nWe are challenging you to walk 400k steps over the month of March – that’s 400\,000 steps over 31 days. You can either walk an average amount a day (around 13\,000) or plan some big walks to knock off chunks.  \nThis event is accessible – all we ask is that you try your best. If you don’t reach 400k\, or want to set yourself a smaller distance target\, that is absolutely fine too. \nWhat will I get for signing up?\nEveryone who creates a fundraising page will receive a free t-shirt. All sign ups will receive a free steps tracker to help them keep track over the month. By joining the Facebook group\, you will be part of our exclusive community of walkers all over the UK making a difference. \nHow do I track my steps?\nYou can use an app on your phone like a built in health app or Strava\, or a fitness watch.  \nI have accessibility needs – can I still take part?\nYes\, of course! 400k steps roughly equals 17.82 miles\, so feel free to cover this distance in an alternate way ie. Wheel 17.82 miles in a wheelchair throughout March. \nHow can I fundraise?\nPlease join our Facebook group and complete your registration form. This form will let you set up a Facebook fundraising page\, or you can choose to set this up at a later date.\nIf you don’t use Facebook\, please create a JustGiving page and let us know you are taking part. \nI’ve created my fundraising page – how long until I get my t-shirt?\nWe endeavor to post all t-shirt packs within 14 days of your page being set up. Your t-shirt will be arriving by Royal Mail.
